Some years ago, during the Obama Presidency, a friend noted that if the only thing we got from The One was a pivot to India, that would suffice. It didn't manifest as he desired, but a good idea delayed is still a good idea.

This past week, Vice President JD Vance visited the Subcontinent and called for closer economic ties with that most populous nation in the world (yes, indeed, India edges China out for that title). That visit coincides with efforts toward drafting a bilateral trade agreement between India and America (I'm a fan of bilateral agreements, and prefer them over multi-nation "blanket" pacts). It also aligns, tone-wise, with Vance's scolding of Old Europe's anti-liberty mandarins and with the budding economic cold war between the USA and China.
