Elon Musk's SpaceX Starship achieved a significant milestone the other day, returning a booster stage to a launch pad. It was quite a thing, and yet another example of human ingenuity at work. It's also a breakthrough in humanity's desire to break free of Earth's gravity, because it advances us toward a long-sought goal.
That goal: to achieve a hundreds of dollars per pound cost to low Earth orbit.
Such an achievement would drastically increase access to space, and could be as disruptive an innovation as the smart phone.
