Socialism’s advocates and apologists rely on a variety of rhetorical stunts when arguing in favor of their murderous ideology. That includes “democratic socialists,” by the way, because “democratic socialism” is itself a rhetorical stunt.

One common stunt is to call everything that government does “socialism” in order to get you accustomed to the word and to weaken your skepticism. They claim that policing and trash collection and roads and libraries are all socialism in action, and then, after you’ve been softened up, drop according-to-Hoyle socialism on you and tell you “well, you agreed that socialism produces some good things, so you can’t object now.” It’s a combination of rhetorical tricks that rely on our innate desire to consistency over correctness.
