As if Lia Thomas, a biological man, competing against women in collegiate swimming wasn't enough of a "they can't be serious" face-palm, behold the story of Artemis “Arty” Langford, a biological man who, by dint of identifying as a woman, has pledged and been admitted to a sorority at the University of Wyoming.
The extent of Langford's transitioning is unknown, but the sorority's national bylaws were recently amended to allow admission to any student who merely identifies as a female, and at first blush it appears Langford still has ‘boy parts.’ Langford gets to share all common spaces with the other members, including bathrooms and bedrooms.
While one can argue that the biological-advantage problem of transgenders in women's sports isn’t germane in this case, it remains that women are being forced to share private spaces with people who have penises. This phenomenon is also witnessed in high school locker rooms, women's rest rooms, and women's prisons.
How quickly we transitioned from safe spaces for oppressed groups to women losing their rights to gender privacy.
This is how Woke goes off the rails. Between this demand that the penised commingle with the vulva'd, the obliteration of women's sports, and the demands that prepubescent children be given sexual educations with emphasis on what used to be called "alternative lifestyles," the acceptance movement has crossed over into a culture of coercion and subjugation. Women, who've spent decades fighting for equal rights, equal treatment, and an end to subordination, are suddenly losing so many of those gains because a small cadre of activists have decided to elevate the rights of a small segment of the populace above all others. Rights are no longer equal, they depend on how high on the grievance totem pole you happen to be. If you’re a woman, you’d better grow accustomed to undressing and using the bathroom in proximity to stranger’s penises. That right to privacy at the heart of the pro-choice side of abortion arguments doesn’t exist if it transgresses on the transgendered.
It's a bridge too far even for many progressive people, let alone the bulk of the populace. These extremes defy common sense, yet the "woker than thou" either feel compelled to pretend the emperor is wearing clothes, or have actually been subsumed by the insanity.
In a way, it mirrors the Democratic Party's behavior these past two years. Despite very clear messaging from the voters (everything pointed to a call for moderation, 'normalcy,' and bipartisanship), the Dems ran hard and fast leftward, both socially and economically, all to cater to a relatively small minority. Trans activism is only a subset of the transgender acceptance movement, a subset that is not only logic-defying in its demands, but one that is alienating the rest of the LGBTQIA+ "community." And, setting the acceptance movement back rather than advancing it. As Nellie Bowles reported at Common Sense, an "ultra progressive sex ed curriculum" has spawned protests from both Christian and Muslim religious conservatives, some of whom are expanding their protests to condemnation of homosexuality itself. That sort of over-swinging of the pendulum is something I've long feared would result from the woke-Left's excesses.
One commenter at National Review noted that ""Bosom Buddies" is now reality. Life imitating art." For the younger and less culture-poppy, Bosom Buddies was an early '80s sitcom where two men had to pretend to be women to keep the cheap apartment in an women-only building, and is notable as Tom Hanks' breakout show.
In other words, some dude finally figured out how to get to live in an all-girl's dorm. Not surreptitiously, hiding his bits from the people in charge, but overtly and with their full backing.
Write this as fiction 25 years ago, and no one would find it believable. Yet, here we are.

... of note (yes, semi-pile on)
A scant few days ago, North Carolina; a volleyball tournament, a high school transboy (deal with the qualification) spiked a shot across the net driving a female competitor to the floor; injuries still accumulating. This dumpster fire is on the verge of setting a grass(roots) fire.
The few; decimating the greater quantity of rights all 'round has departed not only reality but sanity. Perhaps this is uniting diverse groups who are experiencing repression they never dreamt of.
The matter of some unelected, dictitorial, woke-boards pushing down draconian demands either in revenge for their pitiful upbringing, or out of fear for their jobs, is on the way to an end.
An end, one might wager, that will come in a fashion least expected, in a reverse-bulldozer blitzkrieg, and offering strange respite; albeit of the moment. Homo Sapien, and it took so long to find out we were a genetic miscalculation. Hope the next sentient form does better.
