Amen. I especially liked the paragraph about shaking up our NATO alliance, bringing in new allies/ players -
"Many fret that Trump will withdraw us from NATO. I don’t see that he has the power to do that unilaterally, but I also don’t see what the point of NATO is if many of the big players don’t field militaries worth a damn. Maybe it’s time for a realignment, for a new set of alliances that include nations that “get it” (e.g. the nations along the Baltic Sea) and telling those that pay lip service to the old alliance, no matter how long we’ve been “friends,” that their lack of interest in national defense is no longer America’s problem."
Especially the last sentence. One sided friendship never works. Good Trump!!
Great article Peter, as usual, but stop comparing Trump to Kamala Harris! They're BOTH despicable, inept, rotten, stinking, worthless, power-crazed morons who clearly don't deserve the nation's highest office. Instead of trying to convince us that one is "better" than the other, spend that energy on changing whatever needs to be changed so that we voters have better choices.
I don't buy the "two different and equivalent flavors of shit" assertion that I see made. Harris would have been far worse for the country than Trump has been.
On this blog and elsewhere, I seek to illuminate how more liberty is better, and point at the biggest threats in my opinion to liberty. I've stated time and time again that Trump is a mixed bag, with plenty to criticize. But I've seen no reason to change my mind that a Harris term would have produced far worse consequences for the nation - both short and long term. To repeat my afterword, the difference in energy policy alone is vast and deeply consequential.
NATO follows the welfare paradigm - what starts as help creates the expectation of more help. When that happens, it leads first to dependency and then to entitlement, ultimately followed by resentment on the part of the recipient. Like an overindulgent parent, we enabled the unruly child to become what he is, and now the child is mad at the folks because he, too, recognizes the problem, even if that recognition is only subconscious.
No more EU doing their thing and the US doing theirs...and Israel doing something else. We either hang together or we don't hang. Iran's nuclear program is a problem for everybody as is the price of oil.
What is it Kennedy said about living on the same planet and breathing the same air?
By the way it looks like we're headed to the moon again.
BAILI! Hoping that by the time we get to the end of “a couple hundred nuclear plants” they will be fusion-based 🤗

"... necessary and vital." ... and has produced an impressive list of accomplishments. And, no, I'm not yet tired of winning.
<Warning - Boomer cultural reference>
The capability of our NATO allies amounts to Barney Fife walking around with his bullets in his pocket.
I’m old enough to get that comment. 🤣 Thanks for the laugh.

At what point should Americans say "enough" to the Western European nations that have been free-riding?
