Spot on! The TDS is, however, real. No matter how much hard evidence is revealed, the staunchest haters will never allow themselves to think objectively and rationally. It is very sad to witness. People I call dear friends. We will continue to agree to disagree. But I will NEVER lose a friend over it. NEVER.

I see TDS every day on Facebook. People obsessively posting about everything Trump does and never ever ever saying "he got this right."

I say, "criticize away," but no one is wrong every time, and if you can't or won't acknowledge a good move here or there, I have no desire to pay attention to anything else you post.

Sad & terrifyingly accurate that millions (!) of intellectually competent people CHOOSE to believe things proven false.

Any Democrats who want to avoid the destruction of their party will get out in front of this and demand an investigation, with punishment of the guilty. I’m not holding my breath waiting for this to happen πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈπŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. It’s more likely that, as more of the disgusting facts emerge, the remaining rational Democrats will refuse to be associated with a party that condones treasonous behavior. Those remaining in the party will be overwhelmingly radical and far out of step with the country. The Dem party will die a painful death.

Outstanding piece.

I think I pay a reasonable degree of attention to world events, but I have never ever, to this day, understood what exactly it was Trump and Russia allegedly colluded to do. Lots of talk, claims, allegations of nefarious-sounding collusion (Russians! Conspiracies!) but they colluded to do what, exactly?

Before laughing at others who are afflicted by cognitive dissonance, you might want to look at yourself. When was the last time you changed your position on something of any importance? When was the last time you gave credit to the "opposition" for something they got right? If it's been a long time or never then you too may be engaging in cognitive dissonance. πŸ˜† And, I notice all too often that "TDS" is a sign that someone is infected with the virus of cognitive dissonance. Instead of engaging with the legitimate concerns expressed by others regarding Trump, you can short circuit the entire process by replying "TDS". With my background in Psychology, I know that cognitive dissonance is part and parcel of human nature. We always have to be on our guard because it is so easy to indulge in it. Note that my comments about being infected with this mental malady or TDS were not directed at anyone in this forum.

I'm a libertarian. I'm used to finding fault with both major parties. I've been banging on about Trump's tariffs since his first term, and I still call him the Untethered Orange Id. And, yes, my opinions evolve over time. You may not notice it, because I don't offer an opinion on every matter, and I reserve opinions on many matters until they've had time to form up.

As for "TDS," here's how it sometimes plays out TDS: Playing whataboutism in the face of the glaringly obvious misdeeds by his opponents. Tacitly accepting or tolerating the "get him" attitude. Talking about him instead of the topic of this post, which is the shocking degree of brazenness by his opponents that continues to be unmasked.

If someone's response to something that isn't actually about Trump is to bring Trump up, I feel safe in concluding that emotion is overriding logic. That is when the TDS label comes into play.

You might be inclined to think that overuse is a sign of invalidity. It is not. You and I have seen how some people will post anti-Trump stuff 10x a day, and never praise a single good action. What do you call that?

I prefer that people go ape over Trump online instead of trying to do it in the real world.

These people cannot admit being wrong about anything. Not the Russia hoax, not Covid, not Ukraine, not unconditional support for Israel, nothing. It is something the likes of which I have never seen. A normal person would eventually become skeptical of sources who make claims that later implode. But not the TDS Brigade and its fellow travelers on the right whose confirmation bias exceeds their common sense.

I didn't believe it at the time, the allegations were so fabulous. What opened my eyes through this debacle were the people on the right who were so adamantly Anyone But Trump that they went all in, defending the most nonsensical story lines. Supposed Reagan Republicans repeating Rachael Maddow talking points. Only a full suspension of disbelief by the media gave it legs, along with the shocking degrees of TDS.

I knew there was something fishy when the allegations of a "pee tape" emerged, given how famously germaphobic Trump was known to be. That was just one of many things that caused an eyebrow raise at the time.

Oh, and I'm tickled by a propensity of those who cannot abide Trump to mock and dismiss assertions of TDS as if it's just a made-up label. You and I see it on steady display in a certain Facebook group.
