Great piece again, Peter! Every environmentalist should read this one!

Especially when you consider that literally everything that humans or instruments can possibly perceive, as well as all that CAN'T be perceived but occurs within the possibility of FUTURE perception -- changes the climate.

Those are the odds that confront us all every day, when we try to plot out the trajectory of our lives. And even WE fail to recognize the STAGGERING odds against the occurrence of ANY of the major events of our lives.

In retrospect, we see the "Cultural Butterflies" as you've so aptly named them, and as you've so perceptively seen them. But not as they're happening, not even as "miracle after miracle after miracle after miracle, and them some more" awkwardly, but accurately, describes every second of every day we live.

Wonderful, thought-provoking piece!
