Those of us who have followed the arc of Marvel Comics' entry into the movie and TV world have been generally disappointed (or worse) by the past few years' offerings. The "Marvel Cinematic Universe" (MCU) began in 2008 with the release of the first Iron Man movie, and Robert Downey, Jr.'s performance as the titular character launched a cash cow the likes of which Hollywood had never seen. 34 films and 24 television series, by my count, have aired in the past sixteen years, with 5 of those 34 films released before Disney purchased Marvel in 2009.
