Magician and modern-day philosophizer Penn Jillette, in a podcast I listened to a good number of years ago, said (I paraphrase) that life was about collecting stories.
He's got a point.
Our experiences - in particular the memorable ones - shape us, add to the mass of experience, information, and reactions in our brain pans, and provide foundation for our future decisions and desires.
They also serve as social lubricant.
