Oh, NOW They Care...
New York City is one of the progressive meccas that has embraced the notion that low-level criminals are actually victims who should be pitied rather than punished. Between the elimination of bail for many offenses, non-prosecution of many repeat offenders, and a wholesale disinterest in enforcing the law for entire categories of crimes (e.g. shoplifting, fare-beating), the city’s scofflaws have never had it so good.
