I recently binged - if watching a six episode miniseries could be called a binge - the most recent iteration of the classic Cold War tale The Ipcress File. I won't compare it to the 1965 film starring Michael Caine, because I haven't seen that version in forever, but the miniseries was quite serviceable and worth a watch.
The tale involves a number of sub-plots, and almost everyone is either hiding something or has alternate agendas. This leaves the viewer not knowing who to trust or distrust until the tale concludes.
For a spy thriller, that's a good thing.
Outside the world of such entertainment? Not so much.
This occurred to me as I watched a reel about the optimum temperature to set your thermostat for a good night's sleep. I didn't give much heed to the recommendations - I know what works for me - but such is the state of politicized everything that I got to wondering whether such recommendations are "infected" by alternate agendas.
