Who would have thought that the biggest wedge issue in 21st century American politics would be illegal immigration?
Turns out, it's our current President, who by highlighting it during the 2016 primary season separated himself from the other dozen and a half or so contenders for the GOP nomination. Combined with his own polarizing nature, the issue has only grown in stature since he leveraged it for victory - twice. Who started the fight is, at this point, irrelevant. All that matters is that the Presidential pendulum has brought with it a pendulum in management of the border and of the illegals/undocumenteds currently in the nation.
Biden ran on a "return to moderation" platform in 2020, and thereby eked out a victory. He immediately abandoned that platform, choosing to out-leftist his former boss. Part of that shift involved abandoning any semblance of border control, thus inviting millions of migrants to flood into the nation. The reasons for this are debatable, but all appear to be rooted in malign partisan politics, in trying to tip the electoral scales in Team Blue's favor. That is, of course, hidden behind a "humanitarian" curtain, which only blind partisans believe.
Again, mostly irrelevant. The question at hand is, "what is to be done now?"
