But Trump’s proverbial “broken clock” … yes, our NATO allies, long since recovered from the devastation of World War II, have been freeloading off American military protection, not paying their fair share of the costs of defending the free world. But they are starting to pony up in response to Trump’s crude “diplomacy”. It would have been better if these countries had responded when prior administrations asked nicely.
The first "covet" that comes to mind in this context is the vast sum of money that Pax Americana transferred from American taxpayers to European welfare states. That includes the $7T we spent on the Global War On Terror.
But, at an arm's length and removing Trump from the equation?

Nothing wrong with investing in some Greenland real estate. I hope this is a clever plan by Trump to get Denmark to exploit Greenland's resources and strategic location. Let the rest of the NATO powers do some of the work. Still, as the Gipper said almost four decades ago tariffs on foreign trade only work in the short-term.
