Joe Biden, who ran on a suggestion of modesty, moderacy, and the middle-road, turned the nation down a progressive path faster than Ricky Jay could throw a playing card. Emboldened to run leftward despite the blatant evidence to the contrary - his party lost seats in the House and only scored an even Senate split thanks to Trump's petulant antics - he shoved an anti-oil green energy agenda, massive spending bills, and a cultural platform that pandered only to a handful of wild leftist agitators down America's gullet.
Many Americans felt whiplashed. The mainstream press either ignored them or gaslit them, and carried Biden's water for the first year-plus of his Presidency.
A funny thing then happened.
That funny thing is called reality.
The green agenda smacked up against the reality that wind and solar cannot be decreed into large-scale viability or economic feasibility, and that was before the geopolitical realities took their toll.
The spending agenda got clobbered by the inflation monster, a clobbering that was as predictable as Mike Tyson's beat-down of Marvis Frazier.
The trans-activist agenda, with its fixations on eliminating the concept of biological gender, on transitioning children and young teens, and on destroying women's sports, ran into both biological and rational realities. That notable lefties such as Bette Midler and Macy Gray are now siding with the TERFs tells us that trans-activism has finally jumped the shark.
The infiltration of Critical [everything] Theory and its brethren into education outraged parents enough to tip elections, invade ivory-tower school board meetings, and scream outrage. The incorporation of biological males into women's athletic competitions offends the sensibilities of all but the self-deluded, yet Biden et al react as if every sane person in the nation is a transphobic troglodyte.
The Defund-The-Police agenda was already on rickety legs when Biden took office. I surmised at the time that Biden picked Harris to bolster his law-and-order bona fides, because nothing else made any sense, but since then public opinion has turned even more strongly against the defunders. The pro-criminal agenda exhibited by such woke prosecutors as San Francisco's Chesa Boudin, LA's George Gascon, and Manhattan's Alvin Bragg outraged so many that Boudin got recalled, Gascon is facing recall, and Bragg is widely despised. That Bragg had the astonishing tone-deafness to file charges against a bodega owner who defended himself against an attacker - and in doing so "cancel" the very concept of self-defense - is only accelerating woke's demise.
Biden has only himself to blame. He picked the wrong advisors, the wrong agenda, and the wrong tone. His presidency is a train-wreck only 18 months in, and as I predicted a few weeks ago, he's being thrown under the bus by his own party. Worse - for the Democrats, for the nation itself, but perhaps not for Joe, his heir-presumptive and next-in-line, Kamala Harris, is an even bigger disaster. The rats have been abandoning the SS Kamala for months now, and that exodus has metastasized into the White House, the mainstream press, Democratic power circles, and the ranks of the activists.
Most of the nation doesn't want him to run again, many up for election or re-election this November are eschewing Joe's presence at their campaign events, and his approval ratings are, much to his bewilderment, worse than Trump's.
The Supreme Court's Dobbs ruling has been seized, like a drowner's desperate clutch at a life raft, by the Left, and is being flogged relentlessly (and inaccurately) in a desperate effort to avert the looming mid-term electoral disaster that awaits the Democrats. Polls suggest it won't work - not enough voters that matter will elevate their outrage about Dobbs over their wallets, living standards, and children.
The Left's agenda has flown into a concrete wall, and all who can leap off before their own faces hit that wall are doing so. That many of the leapers, like Californians who fled to Nevada, continue to embrace that agenda despite all this rejection, is a problem, but there's still time and hope that they fade that support and moderate the way they had hoped the nation would on Joe's watch.
There's peril in this smash-up. There are some unfortunate rumblings from the cultural Right against things like tolerance/acceptance, gay marriage, racial comity, and other things that have gotten better across the past few decades. If such rise beyond fringe noise, that'd be both unfortunate and a mistake, and keep us riding a seesaw rather than pursuing harmony. Still, that's only a minor "keep an eye on" bit compared to the tsunami rising up to wash woke away.
Mixing my metaphors, you say? Guilty, I say.

"The Supreme Court's Dobbs ruling has been seized, like a drowner's desperate clutch at a life raft, by the Left, and is being flogged relentlessly (and inaccurately) in a desperate effort to avert the looming mid-term electoral disaster..." Yes, precisely - "inaccurately" and "desperate". Because now the Democrats are on the very public side of denying all you people in NY and California from having abortion "your way" - as well as the people in Kansas and Ohio and Texas. I think "the people" are waking up to what the Dobbs decision grants them for the first time in two generations.
❤️❤️❤️ Peter, you can mix your metaphors all day long!!!😍
