And some of us in the AMAC crowd would like to see Bad Benny [Goodman] perform at halftime 🤗

Ahhhhh, but the half-time show - and entertainment in general - catered to white, middle class sanitized tastes for DECADES. Now they’re including rap and hip-hop (what?!?!) and risqué Latin pop (WHAT??!!??!!) - and suddenly, my 66 year old white middle class a$$ doesn’t feel “seen”. “They’re “erasing” a whole segment of the population”, blah blah blah. And they don’t see the irony.

Meanwhile, everyone beats the topic to death, and the NFL soaks it up.

So what's your favorite position on the line of scrimmage? I always found the tailbacks as the most versatile. They're running backs who from a position behind the quarterback and a few yards in front of the defensive line have to be able to do anything which a halfback, fullback, wide receiver or even a quarterback can do on the offense.

I can't say the question has ever crossed my mind.

As you learn more about the game you begin to understand if not exactly justify what might be behind the annual commercial hype, advertising opportunities, global viewing distribution rights, and the large-scale betting with this particular sport.

All pro sports are businesses. It's in the name.

Good take, the halftime show has never really been something I factor in. The NFL is a business and its decisions have to be evaluated on whether they grow or shrink the business. I can always go to a concert hall or bar to enjoy a band I like.

I’ve been studying Spanish for almost 4 years. Not because I ever heard of Bad Bunny, but it was an opportunity to test my knowledge. Well, not my thing but there’s always next year… your commentary is always insightful. TY

I knew ahead of the game I wouldn't be watching the halftime show. My reason was Charlie Kirk. I was intrigued by the David and Goliath approach TPUSA had come up with and thought it might be an interesting addition to the alternate list of puppies. The NFL proved to me a long time ago that they can't be trusted to have a performance that will be wholesome enough for children in the audience.

Data point from Bocas del Toro, Panama: 20/80 US expats there for game and everyone else there for Bad Bunny - crowd went 100% crazy partying to his show, was really fun people watching for me!

It's seldom that I disagree, but... I'm wondering if dangling that carrot for a nebulous hispanic audience is worth alienating any of your core audience? Years living in hispanic countries makes me doubt the NFL will be able to make football mean anything other than soccer for the bulk of them. B'sides, the NFL used to be provide family-friendly halftime entertainment; BB's lyrics sure belayed that. Sign me "Prudella Val"

I thought of that, but they've been doing hip hop for years... and it's the Super Bowl. Are people going to boycott future games over this decision?

Meanwhile, my wife has a cousin from Germany visiting, and he was VERY keen on watching the game. American football is growing in popularity internationally.

I am not much of a football fan anymore, and I didn’t watch the game or the halftime show. I was surprised when I read that Bad Bunny would only sing in Spanish. It didn’t make sense to me but, I didn’t have strong feelings about him performing. However, yesterday I watched a video of his performance where in a Spanish-speaking woman translated the lyrics. My take is that I am really discouraged that millions upon millions of people are entertained by misogyny and graphic sexual songs. That’s just disturbing to me.

The last Super Bowl halftime show I watched was Eminem in 2022. Personally, I was thrilled that Green Day did the pregame show.

But you definitely make the correct point here: the prime market for advertising sales ends at age 45, and the secondary market ends at age 55. Advertisers and marketers couldn't care less about those of us who need a long look in the rear-view mirror to see 55, and the NFL produces a show that depends on ad sales.

We old people should be happy to get anything -- such as Green Day, which I thought was a deliberate attempt by the NFL to show that it hadn't forgotten us (and included a deliberate effort by Green Day to toss aside its anti-Bush lyrics from "American Idiot"; whether they did it because they've now learned what tyranny and stupidity really look like or just to placate the NFL remains unknown).

Observations:

- hits and influence in cyberspace, are pointless, this trend shall pass, because social media is mutable and short term. In teaching a class at the local Univ on The history/nature/future of social 'data' (its all data). I learned from my students, all I've shown them is change at lightspeed on a medium primarily appealing to a navel-gazing world, is entirely passing. imagine my surprise. It all will fade unmarked.

- This midgame belch and its clutching/grasping pocket pinch for those caught unexpected, will translate in to a large fracture in patronage ( I.E. BUD revolt) noise and infantile glee for the promoters. The next staged event will have a greater channel turn, and drop in prices for bumper ads either side of 1/2time. insignificant.

- Market forces, depending on distraction, and indignation will change things or not.

-Depending on $$$ the NFL will change, as will board complexion. If their offerings and audience have shifted, time to drop the pretense they have any standing with '.... and apple pie'.

Move the OP to Cancun to better serve their southern hemisphere majority, good; bye.

The rumblings of another 'league' can return, Such attention give activists the chance to shift.

Logic: IS and dictates change.

Simp-ish-ness: when feckless (artist/agent/buyer) w/o the stones to subtitle their rancid lyrics, so audiences can respond.

trash.

This right here: "It wasn’t memorable enough to be remembered, and there’s little reward in getting agitated about it"

Sums up this hullabaloo quite well
