It amazes me how this true and simple point is ignored by so many. You can't just break a ceasefire by committing atrocities and then say no, wait we need a ceasefire now.
And I understand how so many people have become indoctrinated to think a certain way, but I can't understand how anyone can see real time pure unadulterated evil and then excuse it.
There's a lot of selective filtering going on. People have locked into the assertion that Israel has made Gaza an "apartheid state" and "an open-air prison," thanks to those narratives having been peddled virtually unchallenged for years. So, now, with cognitive dissonance in full swing, they're ignoring the plain truth in order to avoid having to re-examine what they took as gospel for so long.
What so many people forget is that Hamas hasn’t allowed any elections to be held since 2006. Israel left Gaza completely in 2005 - and left some good infrastructure behind for the Palestinians.
So many overlapping serious problems these days! But I've been ringing this bell for years: the left (who has institutional capture of too many areas with downstream effects for left and non-left alike) is unwilling or incapable to stand down its crazy wing, and the crazy wing is progressive, i..e a condition like emphysema, i.e. only goes in one direction and will never de-escalate.
That being the case, it's doubtful any aggregate amount of info correction or moral absolutes or clear-as-crystallnacht compelled behavior will ever shake them out of it. Where to go from here, that being the case?
I'd say 90% of my friends and family are on the left. They are not frothing antisemites, but to a person they enable them and refuse to examine it and shut their minds off when I say things like "commie bastards," never when Hamas et al. do what they do, only when I say things like "commie bastards." It's very interesting.
Anyway, in my mind, they're hostages. They keep buying tickets for the bus that is exclusively driven, staffed, maintained by the crazy wing, and they only ever stop at the stops they (the crazies) want.
After awhile, where one ends and the other begins becomes pointless; the left is beholden to its crazy wing and cannot / will not ever seize back its own bus lines. Their bus is being driven into the heart of so many institutions, exactly as predicted/ described in so many places - places they will not look at because they're afraid of what their peers will say if they see them cavorting with the likes of those who say things like "commie bastards," outside the penumbra of their enlightened "protection."
Since October 7th I've been thinking of the scene from "Lonesome Dove" more than ever where they catch Jake Spoon after he's been riding with the man-burning outlaws.
"A man taking his leave a little slow." "Just trying to get through the territory without getting scalped, that's all." Lot of truth there for the left. Like Gus, I'm sure that's true, but it doesn't change what needs to happen/ happened.
"Hostages" is apt. There's an element of Stockholm Syndrome there, amplified by the natural "follow a leader" collectivist attitude in the more progressive minded. As in, they're more apt to defer to those they deem "Best-and-Brightest" than to challenge them or seek to stand as individuals. The Angry Left has infiltrated the Best-and-Brightests' brain pans, so....
I have been wondering about the electoral fall out, (if any), myself. Anecdotally, my Jewish friends and family members have been utterly silent since the protests began. Well left of center to a one, I imagine they are still appalled at the treatment the Left is giving Israel, and the anti-Semitic backlash. I haven't seen much backlash other than a few big donors telling their alma mater where to go. You have to wonder if this would be the catalyst to change that historical voting pattern.
"... the Dems will continue to cater to their "woke" constituency and presume their legacy voter blocs will continue reflexively pulling those "D" levers, no matter that 'their' party has betrayed them." Defying all logic, this just happened in Texas - Houston specifically, though I see it happening in other cities around the country as well. Despite her causing the cumulative IQ of Houston and Congress to drop, Sheila Jackson Lee is in a run-off with another leftist loon (John Whitmire) for Mayor of Houston. Doesn't matter that crime under leftist Mayors and AGs (for the past 30 years) has led to huge increases in crime and homelessness, nor that property taxes in Houston are abominable. No, people go to the polls, reflexes kick in, and every leftist gets their obligatory votes, as does every proposition that leads to higher taxes, poorer services, and all the other wonderful things that go along with Democrat-run cities.
There was a ceasefire, until Oct 7th.

The Left *is* the crazy wing.
