A long, worthwhile, and deeply depressing article on a fundamental change in the principles being taught in our elite law schools opens with an anecdote:
Deeply depressing for sure but also predictable once "expression of self" became a "right" in the workplace. Twenty years ago I had the right to ask tattooed staff to wear long sleeves or otherwise cover their tattoos (if I even decided to hire them). I kept my political opinions to myself at work but the Left has never felt the need to constrain themselves. I've heard loud advocacy for abortion, etc. But about 10 years ago, maybe 12, we started having CE workshops on "patriarchy," "white privilege," etc. (I was clinical supervisor for a mental health facility in Los Angeles.) It became so awful that by the time I resigned because I could no longer stand it, the CEO was sending out emails saying such things as "the police won't stop killing black people," and justified the riots taking place in June 2020 while still maintaining that everyone other than "essential workers" needed to stay home because of COVID. The world has gone insane.
I'm convinced that many of the "top dogs" who spout this crap do so either because it "sells" or because it deflects the angry Twitter mob toward other targets. In other words, cynical business S.O.P.

In your estimation, how many of those who talked that party line stuff were true believers, and how many were doing so out of fear?
I think most were true believers. The ones disagreeing were just silent.
What percentage of the overall populace were the vocal true believers? I imagine it wasn't all that high, but I might be very wrong.
I'm not sure, but the true believers were in all the corporate positions so their influence was high.

I think you're correct in for-profit businesses. Non-profits and government are another matter.
Good point. Attracts a certain sort.
