Hollywood Harris

Boy, that didn't take long. Vice President, presumptive Democratic Presidential nominee, and likely President-for-a-few-weeks* Kamala Harris is getting a royal makeover from the left-leaning press the likes of which we’ve never seen. In just a few short days, she went from Biden's cackling, embarrassing, and do-nothing insurance policy to Herself 2.0, with a healthy dose of retconning to help the motivated forget all that was.

Biden's Border Czar apparently never was. Tasked with addressing the root causes of the mass migration northward from Central and South America, she accomplished... nothing, from what I can tell. But, now that she's going to run against an opponent who has made the border issue a top-tier matter, her apologists are arguing that she was never actually in charge of the border itself. A distinction without a difference, and no amount of historical revisionism will make the title go away. A person "in charge" would seek to be in charge of the whole shebang, not dodge the matter by saying "not part of my job." Or having the press say it for her.

For her part, Harris has very quickly signaled what sort of President she would be. She staked out a clear and unambiguous position on Israel with her snubbing Netanyahu. She wants to pursue paid family leave and government-funded child care, no matter that her party dropped those from Biden's Inflation Reduction Act due to cost. And, early indications are that she’s going to out-Green Biden. In other words, more spending, more giveaways, more pandering, more vote-buying, all to be paid for by other people (namely, today’s young and the future generations being saddled with national debt and inflation).

In the same speech, she state that "we love our country and we believe in our foundational principles. We believe in freedom, and opportunity, and justice..." Quite the hairball, that, given how hard her party has worked to subvert those principles both during Biden's tenure and in the electoral process itself. The voters were lied to for years, and with that apparently not being enough, they have been pushed to the side as the party's machine pushed Biden aside and installed Harris in his stead.

Not to mention her sordid record as a prosecutor, which makes this image even more detached from reality, not to mention offensive.

While it is early and Harris has always been a weathervane, the signals are strong that Harris would court and cater to the Left even more than Biden has, and Biden moved well to his former boss's left across the past 3.5 years. Both her stated positions during her 2020 primary run and her track record since support this conclusion.

This tells us that neither she nor her handlers "get" why Trump is back in the picture, that they don't comprehend that the body politic is unhappy with the nation's cultural and political lurch leftward. Indeed, as the New York Post's editorial board notes, Harris et al continue to leave behind the working class that used to be the core of the Democratic Party in favor of a modern aristocracy, a mishmash of technocrats and Tinseltown. It’s no surprise that Harris replacing Biden is being characterized as a “palace coup.” Meanwhile, such as the New York Times are doubling down on the "deplorables" trope, suggesting that the white working class's "left behind" attitude is born of racist resentments.

This being an election of personalities as much as or more than actual policy, i.e. yet another referendum on Trump himself, I expect doubts as to Harris's policy path to be quashed as much as possible by the legacy press that has given up any pretense that it's not an extension of the Democratic Party. I also expect Harris to be portrayed as an even mightier Wonder Woman than Clinton was during her failed campaign against Trump in 2016. Here's hoping for a similar failure.

*I expect that, at some point before January 20th 2025, Joe Biden will resign, so that Harris will become America's first woman President. When that happens depends on whether the Democratic Party's apparatchiks conclude that she'd get a boost from the coronation or if they fear that having her actually in charge would expose her as a fraud the way Biden's debate performance exposed him as in undeniable cognitive decline. If the latter, no matter whether she wins or loses on Election Day, watch for that handoff to happen in November. After Biden pardons Hunter.
