The city raises the tax, we pay a lawyer to say it’s too high for our building, the city backs down to some extent and charges us less tax. The lawyer, of course, gets a percentage of what he saved us. And we do this dance every couple of years.

My CPA offered to do it for $250. I did it myself. It was straightforward, didn't take a lot of time, and was totally offensive.

Same with homeowners and property taxes. The government raises them, lawyers offer to challenge them, for a percentage of the first year's savings.
