This is one of your best columns. The immigration issue is like so many serious issues just a way to get votes for politicians who would be disappointed if the issue was resolved.
Mr. Woods, previous missives from you gave rise to doubts of depth, breadth, and impact.
This recent post reflects those same concerns.
It was well put "open borders and generous welfare a catastrophe make".
This trite common-view that we have unending funds, its fixable.. is just more soft shoe on the deck of the Titanic, shuffleboard anyone.
All while our nation is under massive duress from every quarter (without/within) .
A good idea is: dissolving a bad system, effectively invite crossings, offer jobs for those who are 'illegally' hear, continue to overburden welfare services (yet another corrupt leach-system upon the body-america), in some case more then retirees are getting after years of faithful work and hopes of quiet retirement.
You're right a large number of the immigration 'solutions' are a fools errand. So is an article that:
- doesn't address impact to internal populace, welfare system, and city/state resources
- doesn't' even address the border horrors (seen it, you go look) by cartels, desperate illegal immigrants
- doesn't offer any solution other then a reclothing of the same old sanctuary city fiascoes
- Dismisses the extreme measures that border states govs are forced into, and call them evil
-Blithely ignore any danger of threat actors entering amidst the poor souls driven north... crying out conspiracy
This is not an exercise in sipping pinot, yacht-side, and espousing fluff. Its gotten horrible, wrenching, and its actively gutting the U.S. resources (border/internal). You can blame power-mad dictators often abetted by the current administration and its head DHS despot (widely mistrusted/bipartisan despised)
You missed it.
BTW as a preemptive note to sycophants who bend knee and bow forehead, at the wondrous column, step off.

Davie: both naive and simplistic
If you want to engage in the kind of insults appropriate to a kindergarten playground then perhaps this is the wrong forum for you.
Interesting
Have you ever heard a kindergartner discuss immigration policy
Or use the naive, for that matter
