It is quite satisfying seeing the reaction on the employee's face when I say "no thank you", like they just expect people to throw their information out in public automatically.
I think this age of information gathering is why there's been a rise in identity theft. Many people are too trusting with their personal info which makes it easier to steal from them
A friend suggested, years ago, that I not use my real birthday except where necessary. So, I use a fake one. His, to be more precise :), shifted by one year.

That's a good idea. I have done that occasionally but I think I'll make it a habit
