NATO may not be as helpful to Ukraine as they'd like, but Ukraine would have been lost without their weapons and would likely have been rolled over long ago if there were no NATO to their west.

Ad hoc coalitions spring up remarkably easily when events give them a reason to: Saddam Hussein’s invasion of Kuwait, for example. The decisive factor in Ukraine’s defense has been weapons supplies, which are not necessarily of NATO: Sweden provided a huge stock of AT4 anti-tank rockets. NATO has been amazingly tardy in responding to this even now: Germany had to cut a mile of red tape to allow transfer of some Infantry Fighting Vehicles (Cold War era). And, of course, there is the fact that NATO (EU) is literally funding Russian oligarchs (by buying their hydrocarbons), while we demolish the economy of the regular Russians with sanctions.

Stay tuned for a more complete piece on NATO ineffectiveness in my next piece.

Cheers!
