You have captured perfectly the single minded hate and revenge driving this raid without considering or understanding the backlash that could result in putting Trump back in office. And you always do it so eloquently.
Peter, your analysis is good news for me, as I have been very fearful Trump would split the GOP and we would snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in 2024. Personally, I would NOT vote for Trump in the Republican primary, but WOULD vote for him in 2024 if he were the R candidate.
It's worth remembering that it's a LONG way to the election, and much can change. Personally, I'd prefer he doesn't run, and if he does run, that the GOP chooses someone else in the primary, but today's blog is about today's conditions, and not so much my own desires.
If they were thinking beyond tweaking Trump and showing him who has the power, then they must believe driving him to run again is in their interest. In other words, they believe he would be defeated more easily than DeSantis or other likely GOP candidates. I tend to believe it is more likely, "lets poke him in the eye and also see if we can get something on him" than some well thought out Machiavellian plan.
One big fear is that we may never know what this was really all about - which would be a HUGE problem given that government is supposed to answer to the People.
Great column! If Trump gets the nomination, I won’t vote for him a third time - I will just skip the POTUS section and vote down ballot.
Ditto. There’s no way I’m voting for Trump, for anything.

Thank you :).

The never-ending impeachment of Donald Trump.

This is worth a read.
