Years ago when I was a lot younger, I enjoyed going to the movies. But repulsive woke lecturing aside, movies today lack imagination. They just suck. Like there's nothing there but retreads of previous "genre". And when they retread, they add "more icing" and less cake. To the point each offering is like opening a can of cake frosting - just icing, no cake. You feel disgusted with yourself for having bought a ticket to consume it. And as you say, Peter, the public wakes up to it.
I feel the same as Jeff. The last movie I saw in theaters was Mary Poppins 2, which was so good because they stuck with continuing with the original. I bought Ghostbusters: Afterlife for the same reason, continuing with the original. The rest of the movies I haven't seen because of wokeness, or just plain lack of creativity. I don't know if Hollywood will ever learn their lesson and change course
Go woke go broke applies here, and Target and Nike and many others. Bud Light says 👋 the majority is often overlooked by the vocal do gooder minority. We haven’t been to or watched a commercial movie in 15 years. Just can’t support them.
Your conclusion just inspired me to go back and pick up a piece I started early last year and never finished.
You are correct - the wokeness of the theater is pushing people away. Mr. Mockensturm is also correct in that Hollywood has lost its imagination. There is nothing new - only woke rewrites of old tales. If Hollywood wants ever to return to its heyday, they need to eschew the woke and fine new creative talent.
And that's just it, isn't it? Marxists/socialists/communists don't create - they only steal. They're incapable of the creation necessary to make new, enjoyable tales to tell. This is why woke is a failure.
Just wait. A Disney "imagineer" is creating a "villains-themed park at Walt Disney World." It's only a matter of time til the House of Mouse imagines the Land of Mordor.
I was a comic book freak as a pre and young teen, so much so that I knew what day the new editions would arrive at the local convenience store. I would plunk down my lawn mowing money and snag a handful of superhero comic books (mostly Marvel but some DC) and some junk food on those days, and sequester to my bedroom and devour both. If you told me back then about how there would be incredible visual offerings on the big screen of my heroes later in my life I would have begged for the years to go by.
Alas, those days are here and I can't bring myself to watch them. I refuse to pay good money to see them in the theaters, based on my experience watching them on the cable channels and streaming services I already have. They are so disappointing. It's not just the wokeism that forces heros upon us based on race and gender and social justice; they're just not very good movies. I'd rather watch Clerks for the 100th time than the newest Avengers movie.
And don't get me started on Acolyte. I was 17 when Star Wars came out and it blew me away, even if it ultimately ended up being nowhere near as good as Empire. Any outfit that can ruin the Star Wars brand is truly evil.

Another good one.
Just listened to an Honestly podcast episode, Bari Weiss interviewing Leonard Leo about capturing institutions. Well worth the listen.
I listened to the whole thing. Very informative.
