There is probably no bigger telltale that you're in a conversation with someone completely subsumed by present-day progressivism than the word "colonizer." It has supplanted "privilege" as the preferred form of dismissal and virtue signaling.
I like the Middle Eastern / African colonizers imposing their customs and worldviews on the native Europeans bit.

Ironically, Marx was of Jewish extraction and sought to export ("colonize" others) with his wretched white-European philosophy of envy. Colonialism is a universal argument, as you note, since everybody was colonized at some point by somebody - it's all just a matter of where you snap the chalk line.
Marxism is at the root of woke, and at the root of green, and at the root of progressive labor policy, and at the root of just about everything else we see coming from the progressives.
And, when you get them cornered enough to admit it, they're proud of it. No matter its unblemished history of misery, death, and destruction.
I cannot fathom coming to a meeting of the minds with Marxists, because I have nothing in common with them. Therein lies the great problem of present-day politics.

Then there is the recent Welsh government initiative to "decolonize" public art.... by removing statues of native British historical figures deemed to be offensive to immigrants who are not native British. Deemed by whom? Well.. usually by AWFLs with PhDs in Grievance Studies.
The leftists of the Western world have become experts in constructing elaborate vocabularies of euphemisms to justify stupidity and prejudice.
