Dark days we are now living in, it seems.

One wonders, what collection of events brings about such a dark hour?

Perhaps when the self-serving, the exaltation of fears (enflamed by corrupt MSM), the loss of community, and an ancient dread (plague) all come together to test a republic like ours.

We may or may not be able to keep it, as others around us take the low road to depravity

(Canada' dictator enriches a legacy of human rights violations, hey Amnesty International..)

such blatant shortsightedness as a portion of the population become bedfellows with the worst our culture has to offer.

Spending a summer working at NATO (cyber) I looked on in complete horror as I saw Britain debate 'Knife' Laws, arguing registration for foodworkers and tradesman, restrain size and edge for table, a silliness not even Monty Python could match.

The topper: a pensioner (retired person) with multiple complaints about thuggery in the neighborhood (3-5 large men) received only the assurance that local law enforcement would increase patrols and also offered in-house camera connected directly to the precinct.

CNN World (aka BBC 0) reported on the evolving story. The climax: on-live police feed we got to see these brigands force their way in (an unarmed elderly person) overcome robbed and beaten. Some talking head cuts in to narrate, lament the situation, and promise more reform.

In that summer years ago i thought of my own parents and in-laws, retired military, and perhaps the BEST generation. Living quietly, wisely armed, kind hearts, deserving of peace and respect,

great souls with love for their children, grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild.

And now, they are gone to their rest (the last great Lady at 100yrs), and we are those retirees.

In the face of such disgusting government, a sea of left-loveless bent only on their temporal existence and cravings, and "Govt-corrupt-supreme".

If any of these fools have even a modicum of love or concern for the weak and the old, family and friends, why would they rob them of an equalizer to protect home and hearth.

(BTW I've never seen a Gangsta-walker-mob out with AR's and metamucil. terrorizing....)

We are caught between Theoden' (LotR) 'reckless hate' quote, and Lincoln' reference to 'better angels of our nature'.

I can think of no immediate answer to this mess, but among the hearts of the center there is still the disposition to make this right, i want to believe Tennyson:

“Though much is taken, much abides; and though

We are not now that strength which in old days

Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;

One equal temper of heroic hearts,

Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will

To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.”
