Twitter has, in the past few years, produced much gnashing of teeth from those not in line with woke or leftist orthodoxy. With cause, of course - it's blatantly obvious to everyone, even those on the Left (though many pretend otherwise), that Twitter's apparatchiks have long imposed biased censorship on the platform's users.
Amen, bro! Back when Twitter exploded, at the urging of friends and family, I went and checked it out. What I found, unsurprisingly, was a vast wasteland of mindless blather. It might have SOME value if at least the tweeters actually WROTE something, but most of the content is just copy-and-paste.
Neat piece and congrats on the numbers! I like to lurk on twitter but you have to cultivate your feed carefully, I prefer health/fitness/strength training feeds with a pinch of pro-wrestling and a dab of politics. Substack seems to be a great fit because it is so minimalistic, just words on the screen, and of course, an effortless comment section. A substack publication I enjoy is going to be moving to their own platform and I hope it works but it is hard to imagine it being as clean.

Jordan Peterson was attempting to create an anti-Twitter with ThinkSpot, for precisely the reasons you outlined here.
I don't know why Substack caught on while ThinkSpot did not, but I think the delivery of attractively formatted articles from subscriptions directly to e-mail inbox may have something to do with it. It's also possible Dr. Peterson's personal brand was not attractive to center and center-left voices like Bari Weiss, Matt Taibbi, and Glen Greenwald.
In any case, I'm glad Substack is here, and I'm especially glad your blog is gaining traction on the platform.
Congrats on the numbers!! So happy for you! I'm greatly enjoying your pieces, especially because you have so many that are free. Being on a tight budget doesn't allow me to pay subscribe to much, my one subscription is NR, so thank you for that. I think it was smart making your book excerpts paid though. Keep up the great work!
I am always interested in what you have to say. It’s “smart.”
