“Lying to the voters to do what's best for them (read: what pleases us) is as old as politics, and at the heart of big government.“

This was on full display last week, when Democrats excreted the putrid HB 1808: Comrade Ciccilline showed that he didn’t know his rectum from a void in the Earth.

WSJ covered a less-reported but perhaps more important aspect of Thomas's ruling in Bruen. Thomas removed the ability of courts to consider societal impact from judging the constitutionality of gun restrictions. This opens the door for challenges to assault weapon bans, among other things.

Biden did not reduce the number of permits to drill for oil. He increased it.

There was a contraction of the fossil fuel industry early in the pandemic, and then when vaccines emerged, the economy bounced back quicker than most planners expected. A lot of the problem with gasoline prices is that refineries shut down, and re-opening them would be so expensive that it would take many years to pay off, so the oil companies don't want to re-open them.

Biden imposed dozens of restrictions on domestic oil.

https://americansforprosperity.org/biden-policies-raising-gas-prices/?

He also flat-out told Big Oil "I'm going to put you out of business." Which goes to your refineries point - if they know they won't recoup their investments because the government wants to kill the industry, why would they?

The Dems pushed massive relief and spending bills even as we all saw the economy recovering, and if not for Manchin and Sinema, they'd have pushed a couple trillion more in spending, to fund their Green New Deal.

While not all the increase in gas prices can be blamed on them, they certainly contributed substantially. And, inflation is all on them.

They're still at it. The EPA is looking to strangle Permian Basin harvesting.

The only reason they're complaining about high gas prices is because they fear for their mid-term election prospects. Were it not for that, they'd be telling us even more blatantly, "suck it up, this is for your own good."

Meanwhile, everyone else is burning coal again.

Saying that Manchin is responsible for stopping the Green New Deal is absurd. The Green New Deal was insane and is dead. It never passed the house. The senate took a vote on something like it and it was defeated 57-0, with some Democrats opposing and most Democrats choosing not to vote. I was at a lecture by global warming lobbyist and he said that "You don't hear much about the Green New Deal from Democrats any more. You mostly hear about it from Republicans saying how much they hate it.".

I should have written BBB, which was GND in "palatable" form.

The GND included a lot of very, very vague language, like "health care reform". Just 3 words. Not even a complete sentence. What does that even MEAN? Given who it's coming from, it might mean "Medicare for All" or something far worse.

The GND contains so much environmentally irrelevant far-left insanity that I have trouble believing your source's claim that "25% of BBB is lifted straight out of the GND". The language in the GND is generally too vague and hand-waving to be ready to be made into specific legislation.

What's that got to do with this?

The BBB was $2B in spending that would have made inflation even worse than it is. That's the matter at hand.

"Its greatest advocates are the wealthy, who not coincidentally can best afford the higher gas, energy, and food prices, and who not coincidentally are best situated to feel the least impact from shortages."

And there you hit on the obvious conclusion that is not so obvious to so many of the plebes.

I notice that Ford is running TV commercials that seem to be taking a shot at Elon Musk, what with the nonsensical rocket ship quip. The irony is that Ford is preparing to lay off 8000 workers to pave the way for EV production. More green jobs, yeah, that's the ticket!

All these moves to EVs by the big automakers have a "tactical" feel to them, as in they're doing so to maintain "good graces" with the government, and avoid even worse coercion.
