The glitterati enjoyed one of their self-congratulatory spendfests the other night, and New York City's rookie mayor (who is reportedly a celebrity-chaser extraordinaire) saw an opportunity.
While they play stupid euphemism games with guns and taxes and "climate change" and Covid, crime soars, violence spreads, prices become unbearable - and people just leave. A net of 131,000 last year alone. States like Texas and Florida benefit from those willing to move and enjoy a climate free of crime, Covid hucksterism, mask hysteria - and there's no state income tax.
Yep. The business regarding the SALT deduction also shows their petulance. Rather than correct the conditions that prompt flight, they want the feds to make other taxpayers offset their profligacy.
I'd completely forgotten about that one! It was hilarious to see even "conservatives" from blue states squawk about reducing the deduction to just $10,000 for everyone. They tried to proclaim - quite loudly if I recall - that this federal tax exemption didn't mean Red Staters were "subsidizing" Blue Staters. But in fact, that's precisely what it does. If you can deduct $50,000 in blue state taxes from your federal AGI, then you're simultaneously paying less and paying a lower marginal federal tax rate --- which means the red staters who can't deduct anywhere near that amount, make it up. If your state/local taxes "are too damned high" - you're less inclined to rein them in if you can just deduct them.
Guns are not violent: people are violent. People choose to use tools to commit violence. Also, if people are also disregarding existing laws that prohibit murder, aggravated assault, etc., why do liberals think that those same criminals will obey laws restricting firearms?
There are many good but naive/ill-informed people who actually think that banning guns will make guns disappear. They haven't given more than a few seconds' thought on the matter - or they've let their emotions override rationality.
These people are leveraged by the cynics and activists, who deep down know that more gun restrictions won't remediate crime, but want them anyway as a means of control and "sticking it" to the unwashed red-staters who "cling" to their guns.

Another good column, sir!
