Where do the Democrats go from here? I do not know. They can't go further left and have any appeal to the American electorate at large. And if they move more to the center, they lose their base of radicals. This is the conundrum that results from calling certifiably insane policy "mainstream" and having that trumpeted by mainstream media for decades - they both lose and cannot regain their credibility. Since WFB Jr's day, all the "good ideas" have been on the libertarian right, while Democrats look increasingly like a decrepit, aging politburo of kleptocrats whose only solution to crop failure is to "shoot the farmers". What I fear (not for them, but for us) is they unite with the 4th branch of government and dig in until such time as they can rise again. It's what they do.
They need to have a self-reckoning, above all else. They need to come to terms with why they lost, why their message isn't selling to anyone who isn't in their echo chamber, and, yes, kick the unrepentant radicals to the side.
They've done some of that already - you don't hear them bending the knee to The Squad any more. Now they need to boot the MSNBC and NYT loons out of their sphere of influence.
I think many more Democrats finally understand than we originally have given them credit for. Look at the California map. Tahoe and the coastal counties are the only Dem strongholds left. Republicans didn't do that by themselves. Maybe it was the independents but I have a feeling quite a few on the left have changed colors. At least for the time being. Welcome to the light.
I've been trying to point out the growing gap between liberals and leftists for a while now. It is the Left that has harmed the Democratic brand, and morphed that party from its traditional working class basis to one of intellectual and cultural elitism. The latter population is small, and out of touch, and at odds with American values. And, so arrogant that it felt the old bases (working classes, minorities) would be loyal despite being abandoned and vilified.
Telling it like it is!👍👍

That's what they need to do. But they won't.
