New York City Mayor Eric Adams, who “identifies” as progressive and who actually governs that way as often as not, ran into the problem that idealists encounter when the cold fish of reality smacks them in the face: Grand, magical ideas and policies come with consequences.
I love this whole piece. My favorite line: "Unlike the Feds, states and cities can't simply print more money..."
That's the main answer to the question, "If voters in deep blue states overwhelmingly want [progressive utopian laundry list item], why don't they have it already?"
Secondary answer: Because the people whose money they spend are allowed to leave.
Your secondary answer is part of why the Left can't simply leave the red states alone, and insists on imposing its policies on the nation as a whole. The other part is the "white knight" attitude of saving the red states from themselves.
Great piece (as usual) and I was taken aback that it never occurred to me the public confiscation by the FBI of Adams’ devices was basically a spanking with a wooden spoon by the Biden administration. Now it’s been pointed out, though.... 🤷🏼
This column is a proverbial JDAM of Truth!
