The spring before last, I penned a bit I titled "Fix or Pwn?", which asked the question,
As the GOP's process of selecting a challenger to Biden proceeds, everyone should ask himself or herself: “do I want someone who'll fix things, or is my priority to see my person stand on the figurative corpses of my political counterparts?”
Many will tell you their support for Trump is rooted in an expectation that he will "fix things." Yes, a Trump victory will derail the Left's insane agenda, but so would the victory of any of the GOP candidates that presented during the primary season. If you dig just a bit deeper, you'll find a big part of Trump's appeal is that he "hits back," and you'll find many of his loyal supporters embracing the "pwn" I discussed in the linked article.
Fast forward to today, and a... style, if you will, among many who criticize Kamala Harris. This style includes referring to by her first name, mispronouncing it, coining derogatory nicknames, referring to allegations regarding her past personal relationships and conduct, referencing her gender or race or ethnicity or appearance, and other forms of personal attack.
All these play right into the Left's hands. Their world is all about identity politics and victimhood, and the aforementioned "style" provides them with plenty of fodder with which to accuse her detractors of bigotry and worse. They’ll call you a sexist or a racist, they’ll assert that you’re afraid of a woman or a minority in power, and they’ll attack you. That leads to knee-jerk defenses and rejections of the accusations, and next thing you know, the arguments aren't about her any more, and your views are dismissed rather than considered.
Yes, you can criticize her as a person, but if you resort to name-calling, you will alienate many who don't already agree with you.
I've made no bones about the fact that I think she'd be a terrible President, and that her victory would validate all the dirty and corrupt practices of the Democratic Party, the legacy media, the technosphere, and the Best-and-Brightest who would control our lives. I will continue to illustrate the how and the why of all that on this blog and elsewhere.
I will do my best, however, not to fall into any "bigotry" trap.
To that end, I will only refer to her by full name or last name, as I've done with other and past presidential candidates, and will do my best to refrain from using any of the first-name nicknames and put-downs that I've seen bandied about. Yes, that means granting her more deference in that category than I do Trump or Biden, but that's a reality that we need to accept.
Her policy proposals, past and present, her voting record, and her prior political history (especially her time as District Attorney) are such target-rich environments that she can be hammered relentlessly without having to resort to personal aspersions, so there's no reason to go the latter route other than a "I want to pwn" mindset that will not win hearts or minds.
If you want to see Harris and The Machine lose, I suggest you do the same.
The same goes for memes, which have become a major form of information-sharing in the social media age. If you encounter a meme you think apt, first make sure it’s not propagating a falsehood or debunkable assertion. Then, look at it from a “policy” vs “personal” perspective. If it doesn’t pass muster on both fronts, or stands a chance of alienating an undecided, I suggest you refrain.
But, if it mocks what should be mocked, go for it.
I too try to keep my public comments above board for the same reasons you cite. Also when writing or posting (publicly) in disparaging "code", it implies "this is for people on MY side" - in other words, not intended to persuade.
Angel on the shoulder great advice! But because all 3 of them, not just Harris, provide such rich material every time they open their mouths, it’s a constant struggle against that demon on the other shoulder! 😉
